SAILING AND WINDSURFING IN 2019 AT LAKE GARDA TRENTINO. FROM THE YOUNGEST TO THE OLYMPIC CHAMPIONS

Sailing and Windsurfing are the sports par excellence at Garda Trentino, maybe the most common sports on the biggest lake of Italy. Here are all the regattas scheduled for 2019!

At Lake Garda Trentino the sailing sports are the main protagonists of the outdoor activities.

On the lakes of Trentino it is forbidden to practise the motor sailing, so sailing and windsurfing are very popular.

And, if you love practising them, the award will be a breath-taking panorama all around.

Garda Trentino is full of life from the early morning, when the wind blows from the north; in the afternoon, the wind blows from the south. Thanks to this amazing combination, the sails become the protagonists on Garda Trentino to have fun and race.

THE UNMISSABLE SAILING EVENTS IN 2019

During 2019’s season, the events are many. One of the first is the regatta for the Guinness World Record certified as the biggest unique monotype regatta in the world. Then the Meeting del Garda Optimist during the Easter week – 18-21 April – from Fraglia Vela Riva: 1,400 kids of 9-15 years from more than 30 country will conquer the water of Garda Trentino for an experience that will be remembered over the years.

In May, events organized for the greatest sailing champions – some are Olympic champions too. From 9th to 12th May 2019, the Circolo Vela Torbole will organize the Europa Cup of the Olympic Laser sailing… did you know that the Australian Tom Slingsby or the Brazilian Robert Scheid (and many others) trained at Garda Trentino. Afterwards, in May 11-19 it is time to watch the legends of sailin at the start list of the Star European Championships – Olympic medal holders and great sailors protagonists of the America Cup like Paul Cayard, Vasilij Žbogar o Scheidt, winner of 5 Olympic medals. A classic competition that, even if the foil sailing is getting more and more poplar, the international audience loves and follow with interest.

An hour of top speed among the waves; this is the legendary and always fascinating One Hour Classic, slalom regatta scheduled from 28th to 30th June at Circolo Surf Torbole. They conceived this formula in the Nineties and still is one of the most peculiar and amusing windsurfing events because you can challenge professional athletes and amateurs.

July will be a very adrenaline month. To begin with, the spectacular and very quick 18 Austrialian feet at Circolo Vela Arco from 1st to 7th July for the European Championships; then at Circolo Surf Torbole, from 24th to 28th July sailing will be the protagonist. Remember that sailing is the mother of windsurfing and that, thanks to this amazing sport, Garda Trentino has increased its tourism potential very much over the years, especially in the Eighties and Nineties. The great return of windsurfing is the Windsurfer Trophy to recall the origin of this water-flying sport that has entitled a lot of champions. The next big step for this sport is the nomination to the IOC to become a new Olympic discipline from the Olympic Games 2024 in Paris, after more than 50 years from its birth – a possible way paved for the youngest athletes.

Very young and dynamic sailors will race the 29er European Championships at Circolo Vela Arco from 18th to 24th August. The 29er dinghy is a smaller, single trapeze trainer to the 49er and they will fight and do their best to conquer the podium.

In September, the Olympic Games will be the goal of every RS:X World Champ participant, the Olympic board that at Circolo Surf Torbole, from 23rd to 29th September, will stage its most important international appointment before Tokyo 2020.

In conclusion, the warm autumn colours will accompany the last sailing event at Garda Trentino. As done at the beginning of the season, they will dedicate it to the children and young people of the Optimist class – about 400 participants from all over Europe will compete for the Halloween Cup at Circolo Vela Torbole on November 1-3.
